蝸牛あや（美術家）/ AYA CAGIU （Artist）
1978年神戸市生まれ、東京都在住。2001年、多摩美術大学彫刻学科卒業。彫刻的な空間意識と造形感覚をもとに、刺繍を立体的、時間的な表現へと展開している。
在学中に古美術研究で訪れた奈良・京都で奉納された繍仏に深い感銘を受け、同時期に旅先のトルコで出会った民族刺繍に手法の可能性を見出す。
以来、刺繍を通して「時」「存在」「祈り」といった、目に見えないもののかたちを探り続けている。
日本の染織文化や、自然と共にある日本の精神性を現代に継承し、糸が刻む時の痕跡を通して「見ること」と「触れること」の境界を探っている。
Born in Kobe, Japan in 1978. Lives and works in Tokyo.
Graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Tama Art University in 2001.
Drawing on her sculptural sense of space and form, Cagiu develops embroidery into a dimensional and temporal form of expression.
During her art historical studies in Nara and Kyoto, she was deeply moved by ancient embroidered Buddhist images dedicated as offerings. Around the same period, while traveling in Turkey, she encountered traditional folk embroidery that revealed to her new possibilities of the medium.
Since then, she has continued to explore invisible phenomena such as “time,” “existence,” and “prayer” through the act of stitching.
Her work inherits the profound spiritual sensibility of Japan—rooted in nature and traditional textile culture—seeking the boundary between “seeing” and “touching” through traces of time engraved by threads.
